Fasting has been and will be a major source of weight loss for all of us. The people who want to lose weight fast prefer fasting. They are interested in maintaining a balance between heavy eating and losing weight. But, does being hungry means you are losing fat?

The benefits, importance, and role of fasting in our lifestyle are immense. As we look upon the past, we could find traces of fasting for even months. Even today, in the 21st century, Ramadan fasting is the most prevalent for the Muslim culture which is fasting for a month.

Is it good to fast for 16 hours a day? Intermittent fasting benefits:

Intermittent fasting means fasting in a day at 16:8. It means, fasting only for 16 hours and not the rest of 8 hours. People may prefer starting their fast and night and waking up late as it has already included fast for 8-10 hours. Though it is difficult to fast for so long, yet intermittent fasting offers many benefits. for some, it is good to fats for 16 hours a day, but for some, it is quite difficult.

  1. It reduces body weight fast and also the fat accumulation in the body.
  2. It lowers the blood sugar level and insulin content.
  3. It brings more mental clarity and improves the concentration of a human.
  4. It is a break from the heavy and junk food for such a long time, thus, it improves the cholesterol level in the body.
  5. Keeping intermittent fasting for once a week can possibly assure you of long and healthy living.
  6. Intermittent fasting could possibly help you in reducing inflammation.
  7. Intermittent fasting could lead to cellular cleansing as well.
  8. Intermittent fasting is also a reversal of type 2 diabetes as well.
  9. It also helps you increase the energy level and control obesity.
  10. Intermittent fasting is a good fat burner and also beneficial for people with heart diseases.

Despite the above benefits, intermittent fasting is not good for a few people. For old and aged; intermittent fasting can add a break in their eating and they may even feel weakness during the first few hours of fast itself.  Old people have to take medicines on time and intermittent fasting restricts them from doing so. If the medicines are not taken on time, they may even fall ill. Also, intermittent fasting is not good for children below 10 years as they too are more prone to diseases and weakness.

How long do you have to fast before you start burning fat?

Burning fat isn’t easy, especially the belly fat. It is a rigorous and time-consuming process. It requires a lot of time and effort. Therefore, most people prefer fasting as an alternative to burn fat fast. Burning fat is not as fast as burning a candle. According to a study, body fat burning takes place after you have been fasting for 12-14 hours a day.

It is so because, in the first 12 hours, the body burns glycogen and after that burning of other fats takes place. That is why intermittent fasting is preferred. Fasting for 16 hours a day means that you have been burning the hardest fat-glycogen and also have much time to burn other fats as well.

But that doesn’t mean doing intermittent fasting twice or thrice a week. This makes your body weak and deferred. You should fast once a week to live a healthy life.

Many people fast for religious beliefs as well. According to Hindu mythology, there are many events and festivals throughout the year or every month which demand people fast. Observing fast on such events and festivals maintains a balance between health and lifestyle.

People do observe fast for all these festivities and they too think that by observing fast, they will lose weight but have never thought that how long it will take them to fast before they start burning fat. So, before following any tradition blindly or any myth, they must first look for the pros and cons of it.

Does being hungry mean you are losing fat?

Another reason why most people are unable to lose weight is that they think that being hungry mean they are losing fat. You only tell me, ‘does being hungry mean you are losing fat’? Of course not. This is because when you are hungry, you tend to eat more and that too unhygienic and junk food. You are less likely to make wiser choices. Eating more will add to your appetite and you will gain weight instead of losing it. It is a radiant way of gaining weight but not losing weight. All you need to do is focus on your fasting and not on your hunger. The hungrier you are, the less likely you are to burn your fat.
