We all have heard the word ‘fasting’, right? That means we cannot feed our bodies during the fasting period. Fasting has a great benefit; it can improve our digestion, weight loss, and good for diabetic patients. Similarly, Skin fasting is great for our skin to breathe.
Regular use of different skincare products (such as cleanser, toner, and moisturizer). Sometimes our skin needs a break too, a break from using too many chemical products. So, are you ready to give your skin a holiday?
Today in this article I am going to discuss your skin holiday.
What is Skin Fasting?
Skin fasting is basically, not to feed your skin for a night. So, what is the food of your skin? Those skin care products we use daily such as moisturizer, cream, lotion, serum and of course water are the food of your skin.
Many dieticians recommend fasting sometimes just to keep our body in shape and to detoxify our body. Skin fasting does the same for the skin.
You can do it once a week or once a month. Just for a whole night, you have to keep away those products, face masks or eye masks from your skin. Just to break our daily routine of using several of skin products and let just breath the skin its fullest overnight.
So, why we should do skin fasting?
We use lots of skin care product but strange using everyday can damage our skin too.
The skin has its innate ability to rejuvenate by itself. That means the skin has all the power to produce natural moisture and oils by itself. Skin can take care of its own. Instead of depending on foreign objects such as skincare cream, sometime we should let grow the rejuvenating process naturally.
When you use those products on a regular basis, skin becomes very dependent on those moisturizers. Skin becomes lazy to produce its own natural oils and thus the moistures. Thus the rejuvenating process of your skin gets much slower and skin becomes very dry. There may be in future your skin will have nothing to produce. Every time you will have to depend on the moisturizing products only.
So, try to give time to your skin to produce its own moisture and oil instead of depending on foreign objects. But that does not mean you have to do it every single day. Just choose a particular day in a month or in a week.
So, how to be started?
Do not stop using moisturizer suddenly. That means a sudden change in your skin routine may surprise your skin. So, what do to?
If you are using 3 different products daily before going to bed, at first try to use just two products for a few days then slowly use one product. Thus reduce the use of moisturizing products for one night.
Or, you can just slowly minimize the amount of moisturizer on a daily basis then you can go for a skin fasting night. I think this is the best process to try this. So, slowly reduce the amount of skincare cream will be the best for the skin.
So, what is the best time to do skin fasting?
There is no particular time to have skin fasting. But in a different season, you may change your routine. In the rainy season, when humidity is high you do not have to use lots of moisturizers. You can do it once in a week or twice a week. In winter when humidity is too low, you can do it once in a month.
The process of doing skin fasting:
- Gently clean your skin with a cotton ball, but do not use any chemical such as alcohol or benzoyl peroxide.
- You can use just water to clean the surface area of your skin.
- After the cleaning process does not use a moisturizer or any kind of oil, just leave it.
- Go to bed without applying anything.
- If there is a lot of humidity, it is good for the skin. A dry environment is not friendly for skin fasting.
- The next morning just wash your face with normal water.
- Make sure you had plenty of water all day. Even before going to bed have a glass of water.
- There is no restriction for skin type. Whatever your skin type is it will not affect your skin.
- If you have dry skin, do not do it too often, as it can make it drier.
So, what are you waiting for? Try it tonight.
